In The Shop Training Paint Prep

The Carl Sandburg College autobody repair program now offers online/hands on training in your shop.  Your technicians will learn all aspects of paint prep and earn college credit.  The course costs $200 and is designed for newly hired, inexperienced refinish technicians.   Your shop designates an experienced technician to serve as your shop instructor.  Your student technician completes 10 lessons, either 1 per day for two weeks or 2 per day for one week.  The online portion of each lesson teaches the necessary background information through a series of photos, videos, diagrams and narrated text.  Your student fills out a study, review and work sheet for each lesson as well as a refinish guide.  The hands on portion of each lesson consists of a series of skill building exercises.  Your student technician will learn block sanding, spray gun adjustments, spray gun operation, masking, sanding, scuffing, paint mixing, trimming, stripping, strategy, job skills and paint surface evaluation.  The shop instructor evaluates your student’s skill building projects, grades the study, review and work sheets and fills out a report sheet.  Your student takes an online quiz at the end of each lesson.  Each lesson should take about 2 – 3 hours to complete.  If your student passes the quizzes, your student and your shop instructor receive certificates and your student receives college credit from Carl Sandburg College.

Your student works through a series of online screens, filling out study, review and work sheets, to learn all aspects of paint prep.

Your student develops necessary hand skills by working
through skill building exercises in your shop.

Your shop instructor evaluates your student’s progress.

If your student passes all the online quizzes and completes
all of the exercises, your shop instructor
and student receive certificates.
