Galaxie Project

In the fall of 2005, the owner had this vehicle sand-blasted. He included 2 NOS quarter panels when he delivered the car. My students removed all bolt-on panels, repaired a few dents and primed the parts. We started on quarter panel replacement in the spring 2006 semester. My student removed the right quarter panel and found rust on the wheel house. He fabricated patch panels and MIG welded them into place. We are waiting for our paint jobber to bring us a color analyzer so we can match the non-OEM color. When we have the color, we can trim and install the bolt-on parts.

We were able to match the color. Brian trimmed in the bolt-on parts. Jim removed one quarter panel at a time, starting with the right. He MIG plug-welded the flanges at the factory seams. The left quarter panel needed fabricated parts also. Both quarter panels had a lot of dents. Jim used lead to fill the seams at the roof and rocker panels.

These spot welds are
drilled out at the start
of the quarter panel
removal.

The left quarter panel
had several dents.

Jim uses a bead roller to
form a part for the
front wheel house.

Jim leaded all of the quarter
panel seams.
