| '66 Chrysler Imperial Project
This old car had a dent in the right fender and the left door and quarter panel
were crushed. My students repaired the damage in the Fall 2005 Sheet Metal
Repair Class. We started the paint work by removing the chrome. The bumpers and
all of the chrome were remarkably heavy. We found rust in the right quarter
panel, behind the rear wheel. Someone had painted this in the past. The paint
did not sand easily; it "gummed up" the sandpaper.
Scott stripped the entire car. He fabricated a patch piece for the right quarter
panel and butt welded it in place. He applied self etching primer and
surfacer. After block sanding the undercoat the students sprayed the
basecoat/clearcoat. The paint job was outstanding.
